Can Sugar Gliders Eat Cauliflower?

Cauliflower, that incredibly healthy vegetable that can be impossible to get your kids to eat.  If you pay attention to the health benefits of the different fruits and vegetables you consume, you’ve likely considered giving your sugar gliders some cauliflower.

Sadly, not every food that is good for us is healthy for our furry friends to eat.  And as a responsible guardian to your beloved sugar gliders, you don’t want to give them anything that is unhealthy.  So, before you give your sugar gliders any new food, it is best to always look up whether or not they can eat it.

So, what about cauliflower?  Can sugar gliders eat cauliflower?  The quick and easy answer is: Yes, sugar gliders can eat cauliflower. Organic cauliflower is best for sugar gliders.  If you can’t find organic cauliflower, thoroughly rinse the cauliflower well before feeding it to your wide-eyed pals.  And, like most treats, make sure you feed your sugar glider broccoli in moderation.

How Do I Prepare Cauliflower for My Sugar Gliders to Eat?

Fresh or frozen cauliflower, like all produce, is best fed to sugar gliders. Most canned produce, including cauliflower should not be fed to your suggies.

Though you won’t find canned cauliflower on its own, you can find it canned with other things.  The canning process uses preservatives that are not good for your sugar gliders to ingest.

In today’s world, pesticides are used on most farms. Unfortunately, pesticides can cause a great deal of harm to our furry friends.  So be sure to take the time to completely rinse the cauliflower you will offer your sugar gliders.

Since cauliflower has so many nooks and crannies a better option would be to buy organic.  That way you won’t take the chance of accidentally feeding your sweeties even a trace amount of pesticides.

Cooking cauliflower is not necessary when preparing it for sugar gliders.  Though some sugar gliders will prefer the softer, cooked cauliflower over harder raw cauliflower.

Remember, when cooking cauliflower for sugar gliders, do not add any of the goodies (butter, salt and other seasonings) that you might add to your own cauliflower.  Most of these flavor enhancers have no place in your sugar gliders’ diets.

Cut the cauliflower into small pieces before giving it to your sugar gliders.  Since sugar gliders need more nutrients in their diets than cauliflower offers, you’ll need to make sure they don’t completely fill up on cauliflower alone.

How Often Can Sugar Gliders Eat Cauliflower?

While cauliflower does make an excellent treat, it should not be a part of sugar glider’s daily meals.  You should stick to feeding cauliflower to your suggies to at most once per week.  This will allow you to rotate other fruits and vegetables into their meals.

Cauliflower has a calcium to phosphorus ratio of 0.5:1.  Since most sugar glider owners try to keep their pet’s diet at a ratio of 2:1, if your little buddies do end up loving cauliflower, be sure to add some more calcium dense foods to their diet to offset cauliflower’s backwards ratio.

Summary: Can Sugar Gliders Have Cauliflower?

Can sugar gliders eat cauliflower? In a word: Yes!  Sugar gliders can eat cauliflower in small quantities and as part of a weekly rotation of vegetables.  Be sure to rinse all of the pesticides from the cauliflower before giving it your suggies.  Even better, buy organic cauliflower!

You can even cook it for them if you want.  Just be sure to keep the spices you might use on your own cauliflower away from your sugar glider’s cauliflower.
